This is a wonderful environment in which to learn. Set in landscaped gardens and grounds at Lower Hummacott within the tranquil north Devon landscape, you will be able to absorb those elements of landscape painting which excite the eye and allow you to make a brave leap of faith into a different way of working with paint. Students on a recent course said "it was like a light bulb coming on" when they had painted as never before!

You can choose either the solus day teaching or a class with  no more than two students, to maintain high teaching input. It doesn't matter if you've never painted before as this technique offers some useful formulars to shortcut you into the painting. You don't need a lot of expensive paint and equipment and I don't mind giving away secrets learnt from years of painful practice!   I don't set out fixed course dates but if you let me know roughly when you want to come, I'll try to fit in to suit you.

Painting days run from 10.00am to  4.00pm with a break for lunch.   You can book just one foundation day in which we will get a lot done, or two days painting  in this inspiring location, looking at how to distil your subjects still further and painting from a landscape photographic reference plus the  preparation of painting surfaces.

Please bring your oil paints and brushes plus, if possible, some oil painting supports ( boards not stretched canvas)  all other materials such as palettes, low odour  turps, rags, easles etc. are provided

N.B. I make a small charge for paint and prepared boards if you need them.

Light refreshments will be available during the day but please bring a packed lunch with you.

Solus teaching days are £170 per day   ( that is for one to one teaching, non residential)    Although more expensive, this method of teaching does concentrate the process and with no distractions it is possible to cover most of the two day coursework in one day.
